Work Pressure: Karnataka ENT Specialist hangs self, second doctor in a week
Karnataka: In yet another unfortunate incident, a 47-year-old Haveri based doctor allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of a room in his house on Sunday. The deceased was an ENT specialist and the resident of Basaveshwara Nagar.
The Haveri police are investigating the case and have meanwhile stated that the doctor was dealing with depression.
According to a recent media report, the family of the deceased stated that the doctor like every day went to sleep on Saturday night after having dinner with his family members. However, his family spotted his absence the next day and found out that he did not come out of his bedroom on Sunday morning. They checked his room but it was shut from inside.
After this, the police were eventually informed and the doctor was found hanging inside his room.
The police are still trying to find out the reason behind such a drastic step of the doctor. Hans India reports that the police got the information that the doctor was suffering from depression. While confirming that investigation is still going on regarding the case, police informed that the case has been registered as a case of unnatural death at Haveri town police station.
The deceased and his gynaecologist wife were the owners of a private hospital in Haveri for the last several years. His father was also a doctor and was working in a separate hospital. The doctor had been working as the Nanjangud taluk health officer for the last one year. He had been serving as the health officer at Kudlapur village in the taluk for the last six years. Though there is no confirmation of him being depressed yet, the Hans India reports that he ended his life by hanging self to ceiling fan as he couldn't deal with the extreme levels of pressure exerted by his senior colleagues in the hospital.
This case is second such case of suicide in a month in Karnataka where a doctor took his own life. The Medical dialogues Team reported that a few days ago a 43-year old government doctor on coronavirus duty died of suicide in Mysuru district in Karnataka with some of his colleagues alleging he was under work pressure as well.
