Kerala MBBS Student Death Case: Family Alleges Harassment, Demands Probe

Kerala- An MBBS student was found dead in her hostel room at Ernakulam Medical College on April 5. The incident has raised serious suspicions, with the family alleging foul play and mental harassment by her hostel roommates.
The deceased was identified as Ambili (24) from Hosdurg in Kasargod. She was found hanged by a fan in her hostel room by her roommate on April 5 at 11.45 pm.
The family has also alleged that Ambili was constantly harassed by her roommates. On this, a family member said, "They used to hide things in his bag and later accuse him of stealing." The member further said that the hostel warden was aware of the matter but did not take any effective action. "Ambili told us not to escalate the matter as it could make things worse with her roommates and she would handle it."
Meanwhile, the deceased's mother has lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister and demanded a thorough investigation into the case. The investigation is currently underway. "In the coming days, we will record the statements of Ambili's parents and proceed accordingly," said Sebastian, sub-inspector of Kalamassery police station.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Police sources informed that Ambili was suffering from mental stress and learning disabilities, although these factors have not been confirmed. Police said that the body has been sent for post-mortem at the moment.
"Her parents visited her at the college on Saturday and the reason behind her alleged extreme step is yet unknown... The student had some mental health problems and a learning impediment, although these claims have not been confirmed..," Police sources informed PTI.
