Kerala Nursing Student breathes last 3 Months after suicide attempt

Kerala- The nursing student, who attempted suicide four months ago, breathed her last at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on Saturday, March 22.
The deceased was identified as Chaitanya Kumari (21), a resident of Panathoor, who was a third-year nursing student at a private hospital in Kanjingad, Kerala.
On December 7 last year, Chaitanya consumed poison and was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru in a critical condition. She was later admitted to a private hospital in Kannur and was recently admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital before her death.
The deceased was staying at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital hostel. Therefore, according to Daijiworld report, the victim was reported to have attempted suicide due to mental harassment by the hospital warden.
In this regard, the deceased's classmates protested for several days and alleged that the warden harassed her after Chaitanya took this step. The victim's classmates also alleged that they had to face 'prison-like conditions' in the hostel. The students said that the warden refused to give her food and water when she was ill.
Furthermore, the students also said that they were forced to stay in the campus hostel, were not given food if they were absent during meal times, were allowed to use mobile phones only for two hours a week (on Sundays), and were allowed to go out with relatives only for two hours on weekends.
Meanwhile, based on the statement of Chaitanya's mother, a case was registered against the warden under Sections 126 (wrongful restraint) and 296 (B) (obscene acts in public places) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The protest was finally called off after police intervention and talks with both the students and the management.
