Male nurse held for allegedly raping Kerala doctor with fake job promise

The incident occurred in December last year when both were working at a hospital in Karnataka, police said. The complainant hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, has been identified as a female doctor who relocated to Kozhikode recently. The incident reportedly took place on December 30, 2022.

According to the police, the 24-year-old male nurse hailing from Thrissur district allegedly raped the 28-year-old doctor by giving her a false promise that a new job would be arranged for her at a hospital in Coimbatore.

The male nurse allegedly took the doctor to a hotel in the city for sexual exploitation multiple times. Both of them were then working in a private hospital in Mysuru. He reportedly established contact with the doctor by promising her a highly-paid job in Coimbatore.

The male nurse allegedly blackmailed the doctor threatening her that her nude photos would be shared through social media platforms. The nurse, thereafter, allegedly sexually assaulted the doctor and raped her, reports The Hindu.

The doctor tried to stay away from the nurse taking him as a danger and reportedly blocked his number. The accused, after that, allegedly shared the victim's nude photos on social media as she refused to co-operate with him or contact him.

Police said the male nurse has been booked under IPC section 376 (Rape) and Section 67A in The Information Technology Act, 2000 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc, in electronic form).

A few months ago, a similar incident took place where a medical professional, allegedly sexually assaulted a lady doctor at a quarantine facility in T Nagar during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was working at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH). It has become extremely important to ensure the safety of lady doctors inside and outside work place. A Special Court for women has sentenced him to 10-year jail term.
