Ragging Allegations:17 senior MBBS students debarred from classes
Kozhikode: 17 MBBS students of Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode were barred from entering the campus for the time on Saturday after allegations of ragging were raised against them. Three first-year MBBS students approached the college principal with a complaint against their seniors for ragging them.
Authorities have already initiated an investigation into the matter and the seniors are directed not to enter the campus ending inquiry.
The three undergraduate medicos approached authorities months after two senior students were suspended in a case of ragging. The seniors were allegedly connected with a case where a first-year PG medico had to give up his studies due to ragging inside the campus, reports the daily.
The juniors complained that their seniors would wake them up from their sleep early in the morning on 15th March and harassed them mentally. The anti-ragging committee has already received complaints from the principal after which they started their initial investigation. Based on the committee's preliminary report, the students will not be allowed to enter the premises of the college for at least two weeks.
The issue of ragging came to light as the students were seen not concentrating on the class and dozing off in the middle of the class. When the teachers confronted the students, they came to know that the students are being forced to stay awake early in the morning. They then advised the students to file a written complaint, reports Times of India.
Meanwhile, another issue stirred the college ambiance where senior students staged protests alleging that a teacher, who was in charge of the chief warden's duty, assaulted a second-year student at the hostel. The principal has already forwarded the complaint to the police.
A five-member committee has also been formed under Dr. Jayesh Kumar to investigate the allegations. The teacher, however, has denied the allegation. The teacher, in his defense, stated that he was only trying to convince the students to shift the senior students to a different block considering the current allegations of ragging, reports TOI.
