MP to open India's first Hindi-medium medical college with 50 MBBS seats in Jabalpur

Madhya Pradesh- In a major development, the Madhya Pradesh Medical University (MPU) is preparing to start a Hindi Medical College in Jabalpur. This will be the first medical college in India which will teach MBBS in Hindi. This proposal was approved in the meeting of the Working Council of the Medical University held on Friday.
After getting the green signal from the University Working Council, the proposal has been sent to the state government. An initial budget of Rs 1 crore has also been proposed for the college.
This college with 50 MBBS seats will start from the academic session 2027-28. Everything from studies to examinations will be conducted in Hindi medium.
According to a Dainik Jagran media news report, the college will be affiliated with the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur and will be built in accordance with all the standards of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college will be fully residential. As soon as it gets approval from the state government and recognition from the NMC, the process of construction and faculty selection will begin.
Till now, the university has not run any college on its own. Only affiliation and examination-related work is the responsibility of the university. Now that the university has its own college, the educational quality will also improve. Studying medicine in Hindi will be convenient for students coming from rural and tribal areas.
Medical Dialogues earlier reported that, at a time when the Madhya Pradesh Government announced incentives for students opting to pursue the MBBS course in Hindi medium, reportedly not a single student has written their MBBS examinations in Hindi, even though the Government has spent Rs 10 crore to print books in Hindi.
