Sehore Health Department Faces Scrutiny over Unregistered Medical Practitioners
Sehore: The health department in Sehore is facing criticism over the rising number of quacks and illegal medical shops operating in the city. Additionally, unregistered doctors are reportedly treating patients at local medical stores in nearby areas, all without any registration or authorization from the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) office.
Residents have been outraged because unregistered medical practitioners charge hefty amounts for their services yet deliver substandard care. But alarmingly, where complications arise from their treatments these doctors often abandon their patients, with patients having no way to hold them accountable or seek redress.
The Ganga Ashram area has become a major hub for such illegal activities where many medical stores are opening bypassing the rules and the health department does not seem concerned. The lack of any official record of their activities has left the health department struggling to address the situation effectively, reports the Daily.
Drug Inspector Kiran Magre has faced significant scrutiny for her handling of the issue. Reports indicate that she is often absent from her office, which frequently remains closed, and her phone is seldom answered. This has left both department staff and citizens feeling frustrated and helpless in the face of growing health risks. Commenting on the issue, Drug Inspector Kiran Magre told Free Press Journal, “If doctors are treating patients at medical stores, the CMHO should take action. This does not fall under my jurisdiction.”
Community members are calling for immediate action from the health department to regulate medical practices in Sehore and hold unauthorized practitioners accountable. According to Sudhir Kumar Dehariya, the CMHO of Sehore, in order to ensure compliance, inspections of pharmacies will be carried out. He also mentioned that doctors cannot practice without proper registration. Those discovered to be practicing without a legitimate licence will face severe consequences, he added.
