3rd-year MBBS student detained for sending threatening messages to Mumbai Police Commissioner family
Mumbai: A third-year MBBS student has been detained by the Mumbai Crime Branch for allegedly threatening the family members of a Mumbai Police Commissioner by sending his family intimidating messages via social media. The medico claimed that he was influenced by the reports of a particular media channel which made him harbour unfavourable opinions about the Mumbai Police.
However, the police commissioner has not filed any complaint against the student after he apologized for his behaviour. The family members of the commissioner also requested the police to be lenient with the student considering his future.
One of the police officials told Mumbai Mirror that the Mumbai police commissioner and his family members were getting several threatening messages via social media and phone for the last few weeks. They decided to ignore those messages but in the last few days the particular medico send them several messages on social media and to one of their close relatives asking him to " advise the city police chief to keep quiet or they have other ways to shut him up." After receiving the messages, the Police Commissioner immediately informed his junior, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Milind Bharambe.
Then, the Mumbai Crime Branch immediately started investigating the source of the messages and also started the process of registering a formal complaint against the unidentified offender.
Thereafter, the Crime Branch Officials succeeded in nabbing the offender and detained the person. The accused was identified as a medical student who is a resident of Vijaynagar annex on Ghodbunder road in Thane. Police traced him via his internet protocol address (IP address). The medico, a 21-year-old who is pursuing his third year of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a Medical College in Navi Mumbai.
According to Mumbai Mirror, while confessing his actions, the young medico told Mumbai police that he was influenced by a certain channel's reports on an actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death and it influenced his opinion about Mumbai police.
Commenting on the issue, the Mumbai police commissioner told Mirror, "we will let the 21-year old go considering his family background and his future. He told us that he had been watching that news channel for the last few days. This should be an eye-opener to people about how the poisonous coverage of some channels has been affecting young minds. We have also found that several fake accounts have been opened on social media just to defame the Mumbai police."
