GMCH Gondia medico attempts suicide, alleges insult by HoD in note

Gondia: A third-year medical student at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Maharashtra's Gondia district reportedly attempted suicide after allegedly being reprimanded by the head of his department over conduct and attendance issues.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has prompted the college to set up a three-member inquiry committee.
The student reportedly tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan at his rented accommodation. He was rescued in time by friends, who broke open the door after being alerted by a distressing WhatsApp post he had shared shortly before the attempt.
Speaking to PTI, a hospital official informed, "A medical student attempted suicide after he was allegedly reprimanded for his conduct by a doctor at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The GMCH has formed a committee to probe into the incident, which took place on Sunday."
The GMCH official said the medico who hailed from Rajasthan, attempted to hang himself from the ceiling fan around 2 am on Sunday

He said the medico had been upset after the head of the community medicine department, allegedly, reprimanded him about his conduct and attendance.
In a suicide note, he accused the HoD of using objectionable words for his mother and that he was unable to bear the insult, reports PTI
The official said the student shared a post on WhatsApp before attempting suicide, and one of his friends got alerted and broke down the door of his room with the help of other students and saved him.
GMCH Dean Dr Kusumakar Ghorpade said the three-member committee would submit its report on Wednesday, and it will be sent to the Director of Medical Education for further action.
