Maha: Man held for duping MBBS aspirants of Rs 62 lakh on pretext of admission in medical colleges
Palghar: A fake MBBS admission racket was recently busted in Maharashtra's Palghar district, and a man was arrested for allegedly duping students of Rs 62.12 lakh by promising them admission to medical colleges, a police official said.
Sudhanshu Choubey (32) was arrested two days ago, Assistant Commissioner of Police Padmaja Bade told reporters.
"He told people he had contacts with the Medical Council of India and took money by promising them admission to medical colleges. He sent victims fake emails about the admission process. One person came forward and filed a complaint with Manickpur police, after which a probe started," the ACP said.
A probe has found he has cheated seven people to the tune of 62 lakh by promising them admission in MBBS courses, the official said, adding that cases have also been registered in this connection in Mandvi police station as well.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a case of cheating had been registered against the suspended deputy dean of Lokmanya Tilak Hospital, Rakesh Verma and two others by the Sion police for allegedly cheating a medical student of around Rs 21 lakh from Kolhapur, after promising him a seat at the post-graduation course (MD) in Sion hospital.
The police had booked Dr Rakesh Verma, Aditya Kumar alias Anand Sharma and Dheeraj Tiwari for cheating.
This is not the first cheating case where Dr Verma was involved as the police had busted a medical seat racket back in 2021, where Verma and his aides allegedly duped students on the pretext of getting them admitted to post-graduation at Sion Medical College. The Surat police arrested Verma later in a similar cheating case.
