Mumbai: A Mumbai-based doctor has been placed under arrest by the police for allegedly sexually harassing one of his patients. The complainant had accused the doctor of touching her inappropriately and trying to kiss her forcefully.
The doctor has been identified as a 78-year-old dermatologist who was previously arrested in 2015 under the charges of molestation.
Police have already arrested the doctor after the patient alleged that the doctor touched her inappropriately and tried to kiss her forcefully.
In her complaint, the 48-year-old woman alleged that she visited the clinic of the doctor for the first time on August 26 to consult him regarding an allergy on her forehead. The patient alleged that the doctor touched her inappropriately and asked her uncomfortable questions. However, the patient did not react much and the doctor prescribed her some medication and also asked her to consult him after 15 days.
Following the instruction of the doctor, the patient visited this clinic on September 12th again. But he again touched her in an uncomfortable way, she stated in her complaint. After that, she visited the doctor on 16th October with two of her sons as she had an appointment.
According to a report by The Indian Express, she told the police that at that time, "The elder son remained in the car while I took the younger one along as he had some allergy on his forehead. The doctor called him first. After he came out, I went in at 5 pm," however the patient alleged that when she approached the doctor for consultation, he suddenly locked the door from inside and started misbehaving with her. She further alleged, "He then touched me inappropriately and kissed me. I tried raising an alarm, managed to push him, and escaped."
She informed the police that after escaping and contacted her husband after which the woman lodged a formal complaint against the doctor.
The dermatologist has been booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 (B) (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC, reports The Indian Express.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (ZONE II), Mr. Rajiv Jain confirmed that the incident took place in the evening after which the patient came to the police station and a case was registered by night and the accused was arrested.
