Maharashtra's child health programme reduces Infant Mortality Rate
Nashik: The Maharashtra health department has reported a decline in the infant mortality rate among children under five years of age, due to free health check-ups and necessary treatments and surgeries provided to all children from Anganwadi children to those up to 18 years of age.
Under the National Child Health Programme, children in Anganwadis and schools in Nashik district are receiving free health check-ups and treatment through mobile health teams.
The department has achieved success in effectively controlling diseases like thalassemia and cleft lip and palate.

According to a recent UNI report, the National Child Health Programme (RBSK), implemented under the National Health Mission, provides timely diagnosis of birth defects, diseases, nutritional deficiencies, developmental delays and disabilities in children.
Check-ups were conducted through mobile health teams at Anganwadi centres, government and aided schools and necessary treatments, including surgeries, were provided to the children.
The district health department said health screenings of a staggering 98 per cent of children in the district have been completed.
There are 80 RBSK mobile health teams operational in the district. Each mobile team consists of two AYUSH doctors, a nurse and a pharmacist. Children diagnosed with health issues are referred to the District Early Intervention Centre and tertiary-level hospitals for further treatment and free surgeries, reports UNI.
Primary treatment is provided at the District Government Hospital and Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College and Hospital. For complex surgeries, children are receiving free treatment at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Fortis Hospital, and other accredited super-speciality hospitals.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Maharashtra's Palghar district administration has announced major projects aimed at providing high-quality health services to the region's tribal population, an official said. A district civil hospital project, which has been in the works since the formation of the district, is expected to be fully operational within a year, offering comprehensive multi-speciality facilities, Palghar Civil Surgeon Dr Ramdas Marad said.
