Nagpur: Parents of deceased NEET aspirant victim demand compensation, strict punishment for paper leak culprits
Nagpur: The parents of an aspirant who died by suicide following the NEET UG 2026 paper leak controversy have demanded justice and compensation for their daughter, saying that the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alone does not address their loss.
Speaking after Pradhan stepped down, the aspirant's mother said the family wanted strict punishment for those responsible for the alleged paper leak and reiterated their demand for compensation.

"My daughter won't come back. We are not satisfied with anything. The government did not come to meet us. What will happen with the resignation? Our daughter should get compensation; we are not satisfied with the resignation. Our demand is that our daughter should get justice and compensation, and perpetrators should be hanged. Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down; PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah should also step down. We had to sell our land; will it come back?" she told ANI.
Her father said, "I don't see anything beyond my daughter. Our daughter wanted to be a doctor and serve the country."
The NEET-UG examination was leaked in May, after which the government conducted a re-examination on June 21. The government has agreed to suitable compensation for the families of the NEET aspirants who died by suicide, Union Minister JP Nadda announced.
Several NEET aspirants, allegedly, died by suicide, igniting a widespread row over the paper leak.
Recently, Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stated that he was stepping down in the larger interest of students to ensure that the country's youth do not become "trapped in a web of confusion."
In his resignation statement, Pradhan said he had decided to step down after considering that "anti-national forces" should not be allowed to take advantage of the situation at Jantar Mantar and anywhere in the country. He also said his decision was guided by the need to ensure that students' futures were not entangled in legal complications and that they could focus on their studies and careers, while reiterating his commitment to public service.
