New Govt Medical College with 100 MBBS seats to be set up in Hingoli, admissions likely from next year
Mumbai: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Maharashtra, the State Government has granted its permission to set up a new government medical college. With an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats and a strength of 430 beds, this new medical college will be constituted in the Hingoli district of the State. These seats are likely to be added for admissions in the next academic year.
Already, the State Medical Education Department issued a Government Resolution (GR) in this regard on Friday and granted the final approval to the medical college. Rs 485 crore of budgetary allocation has been granted for the construction of the new medical institute.
As per the GR, the existing district hospital, which is currently operative with its limited resources, will be transformed into the new government medical college with an attached hospital.
With altogether 986 newly sanctioned posts, this new medical college is expected to enhance the healthcare facility available in Hingoli district. The announcement regarding the new medical college comes as a significant development in the State Government's overall plan of setting up medical college in 12 districts that do not have any medical colleges and also lack proper healthcare facilities, adds Indian Express.
There are around 12 districts in the state including, Jalgaon, Satara, Alibaug, Sindhudurg, Usmanabad, Parbhani, Amravati, Ratnagiri, Gadhchiroli, Bhandara, and Ambernath which don't have a medical college.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last year the Maharashtra Government had decided to set up new medical colleges in these districts by taking a loan of Rs 4000 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
As per the latest media report by Indian Express, earlier this year, the Directorate of Medical Education and Researcg (DMER) submitted a proposal in this regard including the names of 11 districts and identified the places to set up medical college with hospitals. Assuring that the government plans to finish the project for GMC Hingoli before the commencement of the next academic year i.e. 2024-2025, an official from DMER told Indian Express, "The idea is to be able to include these 100 seats in medical admissions for the next academic year."
