Ratnagiri mental hospital employee gets 20 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting 14-year-old girl

Kolhapur: A special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) court in Ratnagiri on Saturday sentenced a sub-divisional mental hospital employee to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 31,500 for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
A special POCSO court in Ratnagiri on Saturday sentenced a man, who was working at the sub-divisional mental hospital at Ratnagiri, for repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Public prosecutor Ms Meghna Nalavade told the court that accused Sachin Deelip Mane (38), resident of Ratnagiri, sexually abused and assaulted the 14-year-old victim behind her mother's back, who was also staying with her for taking care of her, for five months continuously, a press release stated here.

After being informed about the sexual assault by the girl, her mother sought help of the Child Welfare Committee, which write a letter to the district superintendent of police of Ratnagiri and instructed the official to register a criminal complaint against the accused.
Acting on the letter, the Ratnagiri city police booked Mane under sections 376, 2(b) of the Indian Penal Code as well as sections 3/4 (2), 6, 11/12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
After examining a total of 17 witnesses, special Judge Vaijayantimala Raut accepted PP Nalavade's arguments and sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 31,500 on him, the release added.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a 59-year-old clinical psychologist in Kerala has been sentenced to seven years of prison and issued a fine of Rs 1.40 lakh by a special Fast Track court in Thiruvananthapuram for sexually harassing a minor boy during his psychiatric treatment.
