40 Medical Students in Odisha booked for alleged kidnap, assault of local youth
Berhampur: In a shocking incident, around 40 medical students in Odisha have been booked by Baidyanathpur police in Ganjam district on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a local youth.
According to the charges brought against the medical students, they allegedly kidnapped the youth from his residence at Lanjipalli area of the city and later assaulted him in the hostel premises.
After rescuing the concerned youth from the captivity of the accused medical students, police registered a case against them on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim youth.
On Tuesday, the medical students were also called to the police station and questioned by the officials.

As per the latest media report by Orissa Post, the victim has been identified as Suraj Kumar Padhi, who hails from Chandimandir Sahi in Lanjipalli area. The alleged incident took place on late April 29 night.
On that day, the victim had allegedly been kidnapped from his residence and later was assaulted by the 40 accused medical students in their hostel premises.
Police immediately reached the spot after they received information in this regard and rescued the youth from the captivity of the medical students. Following this, the victim youth was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Later, the victim lodged an FIR at the police station, and based on this, consequently, the Baidyanathpur police booked the accused medical students and initiated the investigation. Police are trying to understand why the students left the college campus and kidnapped Padhi and later assaulted him.
Apart from registering the case against the accused medical students, police also called the accused students to the Police Station on Tuesday for the purpose of questioning.
