Alleged mental pressure from coaching institute: 18-year-old NEET aspirant hangs self in hostel room
Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident, an 18-year-old medical aspirant preparing for the NEET entrance exam at a private coaching institute in Patia allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room
According to family members, the deceased girl from Salepur, Cuttack district, a Plus II science student was preparing for NEET at a private institute in Bhubaneswar over the last 18 months. They alleged that their daughter was unable to handle the pressure of her studies following which she fell into depression. They claimed that she suffered extreme mental pressure from the coaching centre.

Further, they also alleged that she was being tortured and harassed by other students in the hostel but the hostel or coaching centre authorities failed to address or resolve her issue. Presently, the claims remain unverified as the police are investigating the case from each angle, Odisha TV reports.
As per a TOI news report, the incident occurred on Thursday when a hostel roommate noticed her door was closed in the morning. Even after trying, the roommate couldn't open the door and informed the hostel warden about the incident. Following this, the hostel management informed the police. Upon reaching the hostel, the police broke open the door and found her body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Although there are speculations, the police are yet to determine the exact reason behind her taking the extreme step. The parents of the deceased were also informed about the incident.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death, and sent the body for post-mortem examination,” an officer of the Chandrasekharpur police station told PTI.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported a 20-year-old NEET-UG aspirant from Uttar Pradesh allegedly committing suicide by hanging himself in his paying guest (PG) accommodation in Dadabadi, Kota.
Although the exact reason for his step was unclear, the initial findings of the police investigation suggest that he was battling a neurological disorder and was receiving treatment for it.
