CENTAC issues clarification on NEET 2020 Counselling merit list
Puducherry: Through a recent notice, the CENTAC has issued a clarification regarding the release of the merit list. This clarification is with reference to the news item that has been published in some of the newspapers on 30th November 2020.
lt has been stated that some of the parents have questioned the rationale of CENTAC releasing the draft merit list in respect of NRI and management quota for UG NEET courses withholding the release of merit list under Government quota. lt was also stated that it is against the guidelines of Hon'ble Supreme Court and also contrary to the practice followed in other States/UTs.
ln this regard, the CENTAC stated that different States/UTs follow different methods for verification of credentials of candidates. For Government quota where reservation is applied and seats are allotted based on residential status of the students. All the relevant certificates are verified by the concerned revenue and other authorities before release of merit list for Government quota. Regarding the management quota, since, the allotment is based purely on the NEET rank and since allotment is done on All lndia basis, there will be verification of NEET rank and academic details alone.
"As such, the process of verification for Government quota takes time. Due to COVID pandemic, many candidates have not submitted proper certificates and have been continuously updating the records. Revenue authorities who are engaged in COVID related duties also needed time to verify in the field to ascertain the claim submitted by the students. As the same is taking little more time, the merit list under management and NRI quota which are ready have been released in the first instance. The draft merit list under Government quota will also be released in a day or two soon after completion of verification," the notice read.
Guidelines regarding Medical counselling laid down by Hon'ble Supreme Court and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of lndia stipulate common counselling based on merit. The counselling process involves finalization of merit list before allotment. For doing allotment, seat matrix and fee particulars are mandatory. ln as much as proper procedure is being followed in a transparent manner by disclosing all the particulars through CENTAC website and also by communicating the details as and when needed to the students through SMS , the allegations made are baseless and appear to be deliberate in misleading the parents and students.
The release of merit list for management and NRI quota is also necessitated as the students have been requesting to release the same so that they can evaluate the options elsewhere as well (i.e) in central counselling as well as in other States.
