Puducherry Announces Financial Support for govt school students studying MBBS
Tamil Nadu- The Puducherry government is going to bear the tuition fees as well as hostel and food expenses of the government school students who secure MBBS seats. Students who have missed the opportunity to get laptops will also soon be provided equivalent cash assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The announcement was made during a recent event was organised on Friday, January 10 where farm loan waiver certificates were distributed to farmers. The event was attended by Assembly Speaker R Selvam, Home Minister A Namassivayam, Agriculture Minister C Jakoumar and other key officials and was presided over by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister N Rangasamy.
As per the EdexLive media news report, speaking about the assistance to government school students securing MBBS seats at the event, the CM announced that the government will bear the tuition fees as well as their hostel and food expenses. "These students come from very poor families. The government will ensure that they complete their medical education," he said.
In September last year, the Puducherry Government was considering to relax the criteria for admission under 10% quota for government school students' scheme in medical colleges in the Union Territory. Confirmation in this regard came from the UT Chief Minister N. Rangasamy while he was attending the Teachers' Day celebrations held at Kamarajar Manimandapam near Sivaji Statue
CM Rangasamy said that the UT Government's decision of providing 10% reservation to the NEET-qualified government school students in medical admission has been widely welcomed. Although implementation of the quota would bring 30 seats in medical colleges for admission under the scheme, only 14 students were eligible for admission this academic year, he informed.
