Puducherry: CPI demands 50 percent govt quota seats in private medical colleges
Puducherry: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India on Saturday urged the administration to take immediate steps to obtain 50 percent of the seats in private medical colleges and deemed universities here as government quota.
In a statement here, CPI state secretary M Saleem said when CPI insisted this last year, former chief minister V Narayanasamy sent a draft bill in this regard to the Lt Governor. The then Lt Governor Kiran Bedi sent it to the union home ministry and is yet to be cleared.

He said the present government should approach the union government and get approval for this with which 600 students will get a chance to pursue medical education.They could be admitted through Centac counselling on the basis of their marks.
Saleem also urged the administration to implement the 10 percent reservation in medical education for government school students this year through an administrative order. Fifty poor students studying in government schools will get a chance to pursue medical education through this, Saleem added.
