Unfortunate: Final year MBBS medico at Puducherry medical college hangs self
Puducherry: In an unfortunate incident, a young MBBS medical student has allegedly committed suicide at her own residence on Friday night. The medico was found hanging from the roof inside her room at Madagadipet. Police are still investigating the case to find out what might have driven the medico to take the extreme step. The medico has been identified as a 22-year-old MBBS student who was pursuing the final year of her MBBS course from a private medical college in Pondicherry.
The medico was a resident of Chennai and she was staying with her mother in a rented apartment at Madagadipet. The medico was found hanging herself in her room on Friday night. UNI reports that the police are yet to confirm the reason behind such a tragic incident but it was initially speculated that the medico took the drastic step due to her frustration with life. The medico was immediately rushed to the Manakkula Vinayagar Medical College where she was declared brought dead.
At a time like this, when MBBS interns and medicos are extending the services day is night in order to contain the pandemic situation of the country, the sudden demise of a young medico has brought grief into the medical community. Police have registered a case of unnatural death following a complaint from the mother of the deceased medico and the body has been sent for post mortem. Police are continuing their investigation for further information regarding the incident.
Previously a similar case of suicide was reported by the Medical Dialogues team where another young postgraduate medical student in Chennai who was staying under self-quarantine at a hotel was found dead in his room. The deceased had been identified as a 24-year-old resident of Salem district who was pursuing MS in general surgery at Madras Medical College. After talking with the bereaved parents of the medico, it was found that he was also feeling depressed and frustrated with life regarding his duty in the COVID ward.
