Depressed over NEET 2020 results, candidate allegedly commits suicide
Ludhiana: Disappointed over her National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results, an 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan.
The candidate was prompted to take the extreme step as she wanted to enroll in MBBS but did not get the desired rank in the recent NEET. This pushed her into depression, claimed her parents, who are government teachers.
On October 18, her parents left for the market while she was alone at home, studying on the first floor in her house.
When the couple came back, they called her downstairs. However, there was no response from her. When the girl did not answer their repeated calls, they went upstairs only to find her hanging from the ceiling fan in her room.
They immediately cut the rope, lowered her down, and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, she was declared dead by the doctors.

Inspector Nidhan Singh, SHO, Jagraon City police station, confirmed the incident and stated that they received informed about the suicide on Sunday evening.
They reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
The deceased's parents told HT that their daughter was a bright student and among the toppers in her 10th and 12th board examinations. However, she could not perform well in her NEET exam as she fell ill before the exams.
They further stated that in spite of the unexpected result, they did not scold her, rather encouraged her to try again next year.
Following the statement from the couple, cops have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The girl was survived by her parents and a 10-year-old brother.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in a series of unfortunate events, the anxiety over clearing NEET 2020 had claimed the lives of four aspirants. Three were reportedly from Tamil Nadu, one from Odisha.
