Doctor duped on pretext of MBBS seat for son in Mumbai's Medical College, 4 booked
Punjab- Based on a doctor's complaint, the police in Patran area of Patiala district, Punjab, have recently registered a case against four persons for allegedly cheating a Scheduled Caste student on the pretext of getting a MBBS seat in a government medical college in Mumbai, for his aspirant son.
The accused have been identified as Saurav Krishan Upadhyay, Rakesh Kumar, Sapan Taneja and Arvind Gangavar, who reportedly run a consultancy service in Dwarka, New Delhi. The complaint was filed about a month and a half ago, but the case has been registered now after investigation.
Meanwhile, based on a preliminary investigation conducted by the DSP (Intelligence), the police have registered a case against the accused under sections 316(2), 318(4), 336(3), 340(2), 61(2) of the BNS. The case was registered on Sunday after a preliminary investigation and raids will soon be conducted to nab the accused, said SHO, Shatrana police station, Gurmeet Singh.
In this regard, speaking to TOI, the student's father, Dr Ram, who runs a private hospital in Shatrana area of Patiala district, said that his son had secured 180th rank under SC category in NEET. The accused allegedly approached him and promised a seat in the Grant Govt Medical College in Mumbai his son. He said that he paid around Rs 22 lakh to the accused but later realised that he had been cheated.
According to the complainant, he first paid Rs 57,000 by cheque and then paid the remaining Rs 5 lakh as college fees. After this, he also paid the fees to the government college through demand draft.
The complainant also mentioned that “We also got an email from the govt college regarding the admission of my son under the central health ministry quota that allocates 280 seats for deserving candidates. The accused also took us to a professor sitting in a cabin at Grant Govt Medical College, where we were told that a seat would be allocated to us on the basis of this Union Ministry letter and classes would start from Oct 2024,"
