Punjab CM to lay Foundation of Rs 325 crore Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences shortly

Speaking with media persons after a brainstorming session with experts involved in this project, the minister pointed out that this state-of-the-art institute would be constructed at a cost of Rs 325 crore.

He said that detailed deliberations have taken place about the concept, building and other facilities in the institute and a brief survey had been done on Saturday in this regard.

Arora said that the foundation of the institute, which would be established in the premises of the Civil Hospital, would be laid within four months as the necessary formalities are nearing completion. A team of consultants will also visit the site within a few days after that the concept would be finalised in accordance with the facilities to be provided, he added.

Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait and nodal officer deputed by the State Government for the medical college Dr Vijay, the Minister informed that in the first phase a 300-bed unit would be constructed followed by another 200-bed building, which would be instrumental in medical education in the region.

After the visit of the team of consultants, the tender will be floated on expeditious mode to get the work started at the earliest, he added. Answering another query, Sunder Sham Arora said that the work on two other significant projects including Cancer Hospital and Food Street will also be commenced soon. Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Civil Surgeon Dr Ranjit Singh, Dr Jaswinder Singj, Dr Swati, Dr Shipra etc.
