Union Ministry honours Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina with award of excellence
Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina has been conferred the award of excellence by the Union Ministry of health and family welfare for his outstanding contribution to the field of medical education.
Ludhiana: Fortis hospital's gastroenterology director Rajoo Singh Chhina has been conferred the award of excellence by the Union Ministry of health and family welfare for his outstanding contribution to the field of medical education. He served as a member of the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences.
Dr Chhina is currently holding the position of Dean of Academics and Professor of Gastroenterology at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana. He pursued his MBBS from Government Medical College, Patiala. He is an MD, DM Gastroenterology, and FAMS. He started working as an Assistant Professor at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital in 1997.
He has been a part of several national and international committees. He was a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Journal of Indian Association of critical medicine, Indian Society of Gastroenterology Conference, the American Society of Gastroenterology Endoscopy, the National Science Academy and Punjab Gastroenterology Forum. He was appointed as State Technical Advisor for the Punjab State of India By UNIDO, United Nations.
Moreover, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has appointed him as a member of the Expert Committee, of various therapeutic areas, for evaluation of various categories of applications of clinical trials in 2016. He was elected as a member of the National Committee of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences. Dr Chhina is a member of the Academic Committee and institute body of AIIMS, Deoghar.
He also received various prestigious awards including GS Sainani Oration at IACMCON 2010 at Kolkata. and Dr K.L Wig Oration 2014-2015 at National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Speaking at the event of the 21st convocation function of the National Board, Singh emphasized the need to structure the post-graduate medical education in accordance with national demands while keeping in mind that the majority of the population lives in rural areas. He asked the Punjabi and northern Indian medical communities to support the spread of medical knowledge, reports Hindustan Times.
