SN Medical College MBBS student appears as proxy candidate in NEET 2024 for brother, both arrested
Jaipur: Rajasthan Police have recently arrested an MBBS student and his younger brother, a NEET aspirant, for allegedly appearing for the medical entrance exam in place of his sibling.
According to police, a first-year MBBS student at a government college appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG) in place of his younger brother on Sunday.

The matter came to light when Anita Chaudhary, principal of Barmer’s Antri Devi Government Girls Higher Secondary School, informed police that in place of candidate, another person was taking the exam as a proxy, Superintendent of Police (Barmer) Narendra Singh Meena said on Sunday.
The brothers were arrested from the examination centre the same day, he said, adding that the older brother is a first-year MBBS student at SN Medical College in Jodhpur.
The medical student told police that in order to take the exam in place of his younger brother, he edited his Aadhaar Card and put his own photo and went to take the exam.
The police are interrogating the brothers, the SP said.
Recently, the NTA issued a clarification over social media posts claiming NEET 2024 paper leak and it also noted that there have been cases of malpractice and impersonation. The agency said that it has taken strict action against the impersonators/candidates. With this, to detect cases of Unfair Means(UFM) “NTA also conducts post-exam data analysis. Action on UFM cases is taken as per extant rules, which includes cancellation of candidature and debarment from future examinations”, the notice added.
The NEET UG 2024 saw record-high registrations this year, with over 24 lakh students registering, the highest ever, with over 10 lakh male students, and over 13 lakh female students. This increase was facilitated by opting for several smaller cities as centres, especially in the Northeast, apart from Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir, and other states.
Despite some such challenges, NTA successfully conducted the NEET UG 2024 examination Sunday i.e. on May 5, 2024, at various centres located in 557 cities across the country, including 14 cities outside India, with the help of a dedicated team of more than 600 Center Coordinators at city levels, 5,000 plus Center Superintendents and their staff pan India, with over 4,800 schools roped in for the process.
