Government Rajaji Hospital's Dean Dr A Rathinavel retires
Chennai: Dr A Rathinavel, who has been serving as the dean of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai, the largest government tertiary healthcare centre in southern Tamil Nadu, retired from service on Tuesday. His departure from the position has been met with widespread praise from the medical community, recognizing his exceptional contributions to healthcare.
Dr Rathinavel's journey at GRH began as a cardiothoracic surgeon, where he made significant strides in his career. He led a team of doctors at GRH to perform the first heart transplant surgery ever conducted in southern Tamil Nadu, marking a historic milestone for the region.
He served with distinction as the Principal of Sivagangai Government Hospital and subsequently as the Principal of Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital. He has contributed as the distinguished head of the Madurai Hospital for the last three years since the commencement of Kovid Kalam. His tenure at the hospital showcased his commitment to advancing medical care and achieving breakthroughs in complex surgeries.
Previously, he has encountered numerous challenges during his illustrious career. He was relieved of his post and put on the waiting list as 'Maharshi Charak Shapath' rather than the Hippocratic oath being administered to new students at Madurai Government Medical College. He joined back as the dean of Madurai Medical College in 2022 after being reinstated by the Tamil Nadu government.
Madurai MP Su Venkatesan, in a post on X, stated, " A good example of friendly attitude towards fellow doctors, staff, students and patients. It is understandable how much pressure the people in charge of a large hospital dealing with around ten thousand patients every day would be under. But when those in that place act with care beyond authority, they get the chance to give life to so many people. I know countless people who have been gifted like that by Ratinavel. So I adore his work mentally and emotionally."
