Relief: Madras HC directs JIPMER provisionally admit medico in PDCC Paediatric Oncology
Tamil Nadu: Taking cognizance of the plight of a medico wanting to pursue pediatric oncology in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, the Madras High Court has directed the institution not to cancel the student's allotment and to ensure a provisional admission in pediatric oncology.
This came after the medical student who applied for a postdoctoral certificate course (PDCC) in JIPMER informed the court that despite the court's multiple directions, the previous institution was allegedly not delivering his original certificates without an additional fee.
The petitioner has completed MD in paediatrics at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital (AVMCH) in Puducherry which is a constituent college of Vinayaga Missions Research Foundation (VMRF), deemed university.
According to the Times of India, the advocate representing the petitioner submitted in the court that the college allegedly refused to submit his original certificates until he pays an additional charge. The High court had previously instructed the college to return all the certificates to the student and to secure an affidavit from the student declaring that he will be paying the fee determined by the fee committee of the Puducherry government.
However, reportedly neglecting the order of the high court, the institution again insisted on securing a bank guarantee fee of Rs 57.6 lakh of VMRF until the fee committee fixes an amount. After that, the medico again approached the High Court which clearly stated that the previous court order did not mention that furnishing a bank guarantee is necessary and hence the court directed AVMCH to follow the interim orders.
TOI reports that the institution refused to abide by the order of the high court again, on the other hand, the medico submitted that JIPMER instructed all the medical students to submit the required certificates to take admission for PDCC by September 10th.
After being denied original certificates by the private institution despite the two orders of the court, the medico found it difficult to fulfil the required criteria of submitting documents for JIPMER admission. The court, hence directed the JIPMER to admit the student in pediatric oncology (PDCC) provisionally.
