TN: 2 MBBS students die in Car Accident, 3 injured
Tamil Nadu- In a tragic event, two MBBS students lost their lives and three were seriously injured after their car rammed into a parked truck in Salem.
All five were studying third-year MBBS at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute in Puducherry and had come to Salem. The accident happened when they were heading to Kanyakumari from Salem.
According to the police, a medico, who was behind the wheels, lost control of the car and crashed into a lorry parked along the roadside of Salem-Namakkal National Highways past midnight.
On receiving information, the Mallur police rushed to the spot and sent the three injured students to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital and a private hospital, reports DTNext.
According to The Hindu media news report, among the group of five young doctors, one is identified as S. Gawtham, who was only 20 years old, while the remaining four are identified as P. Camco, B. Saran, Satya Praveen, and Jeganath who were 21 years old. S. Gawtham was a resident of a Gupta Nagar, situated near Angammal Colony in Salem, while P. Camco, B. Saran, Satya Praveen, and Jeganath were residents of the Kanniyakumari district.
The day before the incident took place, i.e. on Thursday, P Camco, B Saran, Satya Praveen, and Jeganath visited Salem. Subsequently, that night, the five of them embarked on a journey to Kanniyakumari in a car. Upon reaching Poimankaradu near Mallur around 12:30 a.m., their vehicle collided badly with a truck which was parked alongside the road.
In the incident, P Camco and S Gautam died on the spot, Jeganath and Satya Praveen suffered serious injuries, and Saran suffered minor injuries.
A motorist passing by rushed to the accident spot and took Jeganath, Satya Praveen, and Saran to Salem Government Hospital, where they were admitted. Later, the motorist also informed the Mallur police regarding the incident. Upon receiving the accident report, the Mallur police promptly registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.
