19 year old NEET aspirant from Hyderabad commits suicide
Hyderabad: In an unfortunate incident, a 19-year-old National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant from Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan.
The deceased was enrolled at a Coaching Centre in Kanuru and was a resident of Begumpet. She reportedly took the extreme step as she did not want to continue the studies far away from home.
She had recently visited home, and upon returning to the institute, she reportedly called her parents, complaining that she was unable to study far from home and asking them to take her back.
As per the latest media report by Siasat Daily, the incident took place on August 4 when the student did not attend the coaching classes and said that she was unwell. When fellow students knocked on her door, there was no response. Worried, they informed the hostel authorities, who broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.
Following this, the student's parents were informed, who rushed to the hostel and later filed a complaint with the Penamaluru Police.
The body was brought back to the city after legal formalities in Kannur, and the family performed her last rites on Thursday.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 19-year-old NEET aspirant committed suicide in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district after receiving lower-than-expected marks in the medical entrance examination. As per her family, she scored 166 marks in NEET but was reportedly under stress as she had expected a higher score.
In a note recovered after her death, the student expressed regret over not being able to fulfil her family’s expectations after preparing for NEET.
The NEET UG 2026 exam was conducted on May 3 by the National Testing Agency and was held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in pen-and-paper mode. Over 22.7 lakh aspirants appeared for the examination this year. It took place across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, covering over 5,400 centres.
However, on May 12, 2026, the NTA declared the examination held on May 3 cancelled and subsequently announced a re-examination on June 21, 2026.
