Hyderabad: 100-year-old physician survives COVID-19 battle, celebrates birthday at Apollo Hospital
Hyderabad: A 100-year old physician, Dr Lakshmi Kanthamma has enlisted her name as one of the oldest patients to survive the coronavirus with remarkable recovery from this fatal disease.
The doctor celebrated her 100th birthday with the hospital's medical staff and doctors before getting discharged on Thursday, October 8.
Recognized as one of the finest General Physician Doctors in the city, Dr Lakshmi Kanthamma was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, on September 29 with Covid-19 positive status and several other co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension, and acute kidney injury. It was surely a critical condition for a person to survive in that stage.
According to the hospital health care providers, she was admitted to the ICU with and was suffering from fever before getting admitted in the facility. Moreover, she was also coughing and difficulty in breathing. According to a recent media report, her 65-year-old son Christopher, who had taken her to the hospital, also tested Covid-19 positive and had severe symptoms including shortness of breath and needed oxygen support.
The son also had diabetes, hypertension, and a history of heart disease. Both the mother and son were treated and taken care of by a team of specialists which included Infectious Diseases specialist Dr. Suneetha Narreddy, Critical Care specialists Dr. Swarna Deepak, Dr. Nagaraju Gorla, Dr. Siddhartha Reddy and senior nephrologist Dr. Ravi Andrews. They were recovered fully and discharged after intensive care and treatment.
In an interview with Telangana Today she expressed her gratitude towards the medical care unit of Apollo, "We are immensely thankful to the medical team of Apollo Hospitals. The doctors and nursing staff are just amazing, god bless their great work to the medical field and patients," said Dr Lakshmi Kanthamma. Before getting discharged, the medical staff and doctors took extra effort and celebrated her 100th birthday which made her elated. They all wished her a long life.
