Postpone exams or take prevention measures against COVID, demand Telangana nursing students
Hyderabad: The General Nursing and Midwifery students attached to institutions affiliated to Osmania and Gandhi Medical colleges have requested the Director of Medical Education to postpone the exams as they are required to write the exams amidst the surge of COVID.
The students also stated that if they have to appear for the exam then the concerned colleges should be allowed to conduct the exams by following the social distancing norms.
The examinations are held from January 17 to 31. Almost more than ten thousand students are supposed to appear for the exams despite a recent increase in the number of COVID patients in the state.
As per a recent media report, Telangana state trained nurses association suggested that almost 800 nursing students from each batch have to appear for the exam at once. The students expressed their concerns of a probable risk of contamination and reasoned that even if one of the students is positive, numerous of them will be affected by COVID as well.
Dr. Rajeswari Muppidi, president of the Telangana state trained nurses association, told Deccan Chronicle, "All schools of nursing are under DME. Now we hope the deputy director of nursing would take up this matter seriously and resolve the issue." "DME is urged to allow the concerned nursing colleges to conduct the exams in their respective colleges," she added.
The association has thus pointed out that the state government has considered the risk and already announced holidays for all educational institutions. The risk of spread is even greater as the present Omicron spread is faster. Most universities in the state have cancelled their examination for this reason. However, the authorities of Osmania and Gandhi Medical colleges have not deferred the exam of the nursing institutions that comes under its ambit.
