Telangana: State IMA, others raise Rs 25 lakh for family of doctor who died of COVID

The government doctors have aimed at arranging at least rupees 46 lakh for the family of the deceased doctor.

Telangana: Coming to the aid of the family of the Deputy District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Bhadrachalam, Dr G Naresh who had died fighting Covid-19, various doctors' associations with their collaborative efforts raised funds and handed over Rs 25 lakh to the divested family of the deceased.

The associations included the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA)-Telangana State, Government Doctors Association unit at Gandhi Hospital, and Telangana Public Health Doctors Association, and several others.

They came together to raise funds in order to financially help the family members of the deceased doctor who passed away after putting up a great battle against COVID-19. The deceased was serving as the DM&HO of a health facility at Bhadrachalam. The doctor is succeeded by his wife and two daughters.

At a time like this when the medical fraternity has been working day and night in order to contain the pandemic, the doctor associations have taken special initiative to ensure that at least the family members should receive compensation.

According to a recent Telangana Today report, a fixed deposit worth rupees 25 Lakhs has been delivered to the family members of the deceased doctor on Friday by the associations. The government doctors have aimed at arranging at least rupees 46 lakh for the family of the deceased doctor. This initiative of the Telangana doctors to show support for another medical practitioner has been lauded by the medical community.

Commenting on the same, the Health Minister, Eatala Rajender stated that an ex gratia of rupees 25 lakh will be provided by the state government to the COVID warriors who lose their lives fighting against the disease in the state.

The authorities have also confirmed that rupees 25 lakh will soon be released from the chief minister's relief fund as well to ensure proper support for the doctors working in government medical facilities, reports the daily.
