BRD medical college interns protest demand fast-track trial in MBBS student road accident death case

Gorakhpur: An MBBS student of BRD Medical College tragically died in a road accident in Gorakhpur a few days ago. Aggrieved, fellow intern doctors staged a protest at the main gate of the college recently, demanding strict action against the accused driver.
The medicos demanded that the case be heard in a fast-track court so that the accused could be punished quickly. They also demanded financial assistance from the government for the deceased medico's family.
According to Bhaskar Media's news report, the students alleged that the administration was acting under pressure from the government in this case. They stated that if strict action is not taken against the accused, such incidents will continue to occur. This is not just a case of a student's death, but a serious question of law and order and justice. Therefore, the case should be investigated impartially, and action should be taken immediately.
The students also alleged that the accused driver, already had more than 35 outstanding traffic fines. Despite this, the vehicle was not seized. On this, they questioned why the police didn't take strict action earlier when the vehicle had so many fines. They stated that if timely action had been taken, this accident could have been avoided.
The students stated that the accused had more than 55 per cent alcohol in his body at the time of the accident. They alleged that the medico's death was due to drunk driving at high speed. The students stated that strict action is necessary in such cases so that no one dares to drive under the influence in the future.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a third-year MBBS student at BRD Medical College was killed, and three others were injured in a car collision. The incident occurred when a speeding Fortuner car, travelling on the wrong side of the Char Phatak Overbridge, struck the vehicle. Police arrested the driver.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of the Menhdawal area of Sant Kabir Nagar district. The accused driver is from Gorakhpur.
