BRD medical college MBBS students accused of assaulting psychiatric patient

Gorakhpur: A violent incident has been reported from BRD Medical College, where a group of MBBS students have been accused of assaulting a patient admitted to the psychiatric ward after he wandered out of his ward, went near Sarojini Hostel and reportedly commented on the appearance of a passing student.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the patient, husband of a staff nurse at the college, was undergoing treatment in the psychiatric ward when he left the premises on Sunday and reached near the Sarojini Hostel. There, he reportedly made a comment on the clothing of a passing student.
Following this, the student reportedly called her classmates. Soon after, a group of MBBS students gathered near the hostel and allegedly dragged the patient and beat him severely.
During the incident, his wife, who was present at the scene, allegedly repeatedly asked the students not to assault her husband, claiming he was mentally ill. However, she alleged that they did not listen, so she filmed the entire incident.
After receiving information, the medical college security arrived at the scene, took the patient, and re-admitted him to the ward. Dainik Bhaskar reported that the students after gaining knowledge about the video entered the ward and threatened her to delete the video.
The Chief Medical Superintendent arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The police stated that no complaint has been received in this regard.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s relative at a private hospital in Adilabad, triggering widespread protests by healthcare professionals and raising serious concerns over the safety of medical staff. The paediatrician was allegedly attacked following a dispute over medical expenses at his hospital. What began as an argument with hospital staff reportedly escalated into violence, with the assailant physically attacking the doctor.
