KGMU intern arrested for sexually assaulting nursing student

medical intern arrested
Lucknow: Based on a sexual assault case registered against a medical intern at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, by a nursing student, the police arrested the accused recently following weeks long investigation.
Medical Dialogues had reported about this incident, where the nursing student alleged that the intern sexually exploited her for months while promising to marry her. Apart from the sexual exploitation allegation, the complainant also accused him of harassing her by threatening to circulate her private photos on social media when she asked him to marry her.
She said that she got in touch with the intern through a common friend. She alleged that the accused befriended her and later entered into a physical relationship, assuring him that he would marry her. However, when she asked him about his plans to marry her, the accused refused and started threatening her with her private photographs.
Now, as per HT media report, the accused was arrested near Red Cross Hospital in Qaiserbagh at around 2.45 pm under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), 308 (extortion) and 319 (cheating by personation).
This comes amid an ongoing controversy at the university involving a senior resident doctor, who was accused of harassing a woman colleague, sexually exploiting her, and pressuring her to change her religion for marriage.
The female doctor, who stated that she is a Hindu, alleged that her male colleague, who belongs to the Muslim community, emotionally exploited her and pressured her to convert to Islam to marry him. She claimed that after she refused, he continued to harass her, which pushed her into severe mental distress and led to her suicide attempt.
On December 27, 2025 she allegedly attempted suicide by consuming a large quantity of medicines inside her hostel room at KGMU. She was immediately rushed to the Trauma Centre and later shifted to the fifth floor of the Critical Care Management (CCM) ICU for advanced treatment.
It is to be noted that the accused, before approaching the doctor, reportedly married a batchmate in February, 2025 after she allegedly converted her religion. Both were studying at Agra Medical College when they decided to tie the knot.
