Students Caught Stealing Drugs From LLRMC Pharmacy, Inquiry Underway
Meerut: In an alarming incident, two students were caught stealing drugs from the pharmacy attached to the Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College (LLRMC), Meerut.
According to the report by Amar Ujala, the two students, who are studying Pharmacology at a nearby private education institute had been visiting LLRMC for their medical training. They were caught stealing medicines worth thousands of rupees, by the guard of the medical college, on Sunday, 14th November 2021.
In order to gain further clarity on the issue, a three-member inquiry committee has been set up by Dr. Gyanendra Kumar, the principal of LLRMC, Meerut.
In the meantime, the two students have been barred from continuing their education and medical training. In addition to this, two pharmacists have also been called for interrogation with regard to the drug theft.
The watchman suspected the two students and caught them red-handed on Sunday afternoon in the canteen. Upon searching their bags, drugs for cough, cold, fever and pain were found in them. 28 strips of various drugs (10 tablets in one strip) were found in one bag and 90 strips were found in the other bag. He immediately reported it to the medical management, reports Amar Ujala
The principal has also sought a response from the two pharmacists. Dr. Gyanendra Kumar is also waiting for the final verdict of the inquiry committee, before further action can be taken.
Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College or LLRMC is a state-run Medical College located in Meerut. The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medicine. Various courses like M.B.B.S and Bsc. Nursing run in the college. The Government of India has decided to upgrade the institute along the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences as part of phase 3 of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), whereby the Central Government will bear 80% of the cost of upgrading and 20% of the cost will be borne by State Government.
