Meerut: In an unfortunate incident, a student pursuing MBBS course in Uttar Pradesh has allegedly set herself ablaze. The incident has happened at the medico's home in Saharanpur.
The deceased medico was a third-year MBBS student studying in a Pilakhni-based medical college. Police are trying to understand the motive behind the alleged suicide of the deceased 30-year-old medical student.
According to family sources, the deceased was pursuing MBBS from a medical college in Pilakhni in the district and had been home for the last couple of months due to the pandemic.
Her father Ram Chandra said that the medico seemed stressed for quite some time but never spoke to anyone about it. He added that she visited her grandmother in the neighbourhood on Tuesday and then returned home, IANS has reported.
Later she went to her room and set herself ablaze. The neighbors who saw plumes of smoke coming from the upper floor alerted the family. They said that she succumbed by the time the others could rescue her.
Police said that the motive behind the suicide of the medico was not known yet.
Superintendent of Police (city) Rajesh Kumar said, "We have started an inquiry. The exact reason for the suicide is not known yet. Even the family members claim that they do not know why she took the extreme step."
Medical Dialogues had recently reported a similar incident where a Gujarat-based medical student allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Narmada canal near Galteshwar village on Wednesday. However, before killing himself, the medico recorded a video and sent it to his friends stating that he was betrayed in love. The deceased, a resident of Balasinor in Mahisagar district, was pursuing his medical education in the Philippines. As the medical college in the Philippines was closed, he had returned to his native town.
