UP: FIR against 2 gynecologists after patient, newborn death at alleged illegal maternity center
Pilibhit: An FIR was registered by the UP police against two gynecologists among a nursing homeowner and a promoter of a maternity center based on a complaint moved by the Additional Chief Medical Officer. The complaint was filed following the death of a pregnant patient and the newborn at the alleged unregistered private center.
According to a recent media report in Times of India, a 28-year-old pregnant woman was admitted to the center for delivery. However, after the delivery, both, the patient and the newborn died.
Thereafter, a complaint was moved by the Additional Chief Medical officer, Dr Harpal Singh regarding the incident. Based on the complaint, the two doctors and the promoter, and the owner of the nursing home were booked by the police for allegedly carrying out delivery at an illegally run maternity center, thereby, reportedly cheating and violating medical norms.
SHO of Pilibhit Kotwali police station, Shrikant Dwivedi, while commenting on the incident, informed the Times of India that an FIR has been lodged against the four accused (two doctors along with the promoter and the owner) under IPC section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
The police action was initiated in the case after Dr Singh informed police that the nursing home lacked any valid legal registration and it was being operated in illegal ways.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about several illegally run nursing homes and pathology centres in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. Last year, at least 100 nursing homes and pathology centers in the district were found operating in illegal ways.
