UP Govt. to Reappoint Retired Doctors
Lucknow: Doctors retiring from their government service in Uttar Pradesh would now be reappointed to their service, as per a decision of the medical officials. As per a media report in India Today, such a step was taken to meet the increasing demand for doctors at government hospitals in the state.
The Directorate General of Health had sought applications for the reappointment of doctors, who are retiring at the age of 62. Nearly 198 doctors are reported to have applied for the reappointment. The selected doctors would be called for their counseling between April 17 and April 18.

The doctors would be allotted the hospitals during the counseling. And, these doctors would be given an honorarium by reducing the amount of pension from their last salary. Nearly 100 doctors would be allotted their hospitals on April 17, whereas the others would receive them on April 18.
However, the reappointed doctors would not be permitted to continue their private practice or prescribe medicine outside the hospital.
The Director-General of Health Dr. Vedbrata Singh spoke about the hike in demand for specialised doctors at the government hospitals, and Dr. Singh said that while selecting doctors, their specific qualifications would be taken care of.
Further, the Director-General told India Today, "The first priority will be the selection of a radiologist, second anesthetist and then a gynecologist. For the reappointment of doctors retiring at the age of 62, a total of 198 doctors have applied".
The Medical Dialogues team had earlier also reported that while considering the shortage of medical staff in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had decided to increase the retirement age of doctors from 65 years to 70 years. Uttar Pradesh medical education minister, Suresh Khanna, said that the cabinet would soon be passing a proposal in this regard as the government believes that this would help the state in fighting the COVID-19.
