UP man duped of Rs 6.3 lakh in MBBS admission fraud, 2 booked

Uttar Pradesh: In a medical admission fraud case, two conmen duped a man of Rs 6.30 lakh by promising him an MBBS admission for his daughter.
Meanwhile, on the orders of the Superintendent of Police, an FIR has been registered against the accused at the City Police Station on charges of fraud and embezzlement.
The victim has been identified as a resident of the city's Mewatiyan Mohalla, Uttar Pradesh. According to the complaint, he was seeking MBBS admission for his daughter. Therefore, he spoke with his relative, who introduced him to the accused, a resident of Jagdishpur, Amethi.
The man reportedly told him that his sister, who lives in Gardenrich, Metiabruz, Kolkata (West Bengal), had good connections at medical colleges and would help secure admission. Following this, the aspirant's father called her and took his daughter to Kolkata.
There, he was asked to deposit 50,000 rupees and assured that his daughter would be admitted to the Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Kolkata. Two days later, the woman called to inform him that a donation of 600,000 rupees would be needed. So, he and other family members transferred a total of 6,30,800 rupees online.
Later, on January 19th, the man returned to Kolkata and contacted the medical college management. However, he learned that his daughter's application form had not been submitted. He then demanded his money back from the accused, but she threatened to kill him.
According to the AmarUjala media news report, city police officer Tripathi said that an FIR has been registered against two people based on the complaint. The matter is being investigated.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that a 44-year-old obstetrician and gynaecologist seeking MBBS admission for her son was duped by a 'consultancy.' The accused reportedly had taken money from several parents and allegedly amassed around Rs 1.15 crore.
