UP: Two medical colleges coming up in Maharajganj, Sambhal districts

These two districts are among the 16 unserved districts where the government decided to set up medical colleges & hospitals.

As per a recent media report by Newsncr, during the first phase, private partners have been finalized for these two medical colleges already. As many as 21 applications were received for the two colleges. According to the daily, Shanti Foundation in Maharajganj and Siddhi Vinayak Trust in Sambhal had given proposals for this and these proposals have been accepted by the state government. The other unserved districts are Baghpat, Ballia, Bhadohi, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Hathras, Mahoba, Mainpuri, Mau, Rampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shamli, and Shravasti.

Previously Medical Dialogues reported that the UP government planned to open medical colleges in PPP mode (Public-Private Partnership) in 16 districts and released Expression of Interest (EOI) ( Instructions to Applicants) for the same. The authority came up with a scheme "the Scheme for Government Support to Private Investment in development of Medical College in Unserved Districts" inviting expression of interest (EOI) for the pursuance of investment.

The Uttar Pradesh Government had announced setting up nine new medical colleges in the State in the month of July. These new medical colleges were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Deoria, Etah, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh, and Siddharthnagar districts.

Now that the government has given its nod to the proposals given by private investors to open medical colleges and LOI (Letter of Intent) has also been issued to them, the healthcare facilities of the state will receive a significant upgradation.

Times of India reports that an official statement said that the private partners will be responsible for developing a 100-bed medical college in Maharajganj and Sambhal and the state government, on the other hand, the state government will disburse fiscal incentives as per the policy. As far as the remaining districts are concerned, the process for bidding and selection is still underway.

When the hospital starts functioning, it will provide a significant boost of 200 doctors to the medical workforce each year and will generate at least 1,300 jobs as direct employment. The availability number of beds will also be increased to 100 in Maharajganj and 300 beds in Sambhal, reports the daily.
