Uttarakhand: MBBS admission cancelled after fake quota certificate detected during verification

Almora: The admission of an MBBS aspirant at Soban Singh Jeena Government Institute of Medical Sciences and Research has been cancelled after college authorities found that his certificate for admission under the orphan and abandoned children quota was allegedly forged.
The alleged forgery was detected on Friday evening during the document verification process for counselling when college principal Dr. G. S. Tital noticed a discrepancy in the name of the issuing officer on the certificate dated August 27, 2026.
The document submitted by the candidate mentioned the Bazpur sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), different from the current SDM.

Following the discrepancy, the college administration sent the certificate to the Bazpur tehsil authorities for verification. An inquiry by the tehsil officials confirmed that their office had not issued any such certificate.
After the document was found to be fake, the college cancelled the aspirant's provisional admission in accordance with institutional rules and filed a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, the Almora police registered a first information report (FIR) against the candidate under relevant legal provisions.
Confirming the development, Circle Officer Balwant Singh Rawat told TOI, "A formal investigation is underway. Police are currently probing how the forged document was produced and whether additional individuals or syndicates were involved in facilitating the fake paperwork."
Medical Dialogues had reported that four medical graduates from abroad have been arrested recently by the Special Operations Group of Rajasthan Police for allegedly obtaining forged Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) screening certificates to secure internships and registration with the Rajasthan Medical Council.
Among the four accused, two are from Deeg and the other two FMGs hail from Bharatpur. While one of them paid Rs 30 lakh for a forged certificate, two others paid Rs 27 lakh each. Another candidate allegedly paid Rs 30 lakh to obtain the fake FMG document.
