Tamil Nadu: Hospital Chairman arrested for sexually abusing minor nursing student
Coimbatore: The Chairman of a private hospital in Coimbatore, ARR Medical Centre in Singanallur has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a minor nursing student.
It is reported that the girl ( 17 years), a student of a nearby nursing college was taking practical training in the hospital. She had gone to the doctor with complaints of fever. The accused who heads the hospital in Coimbatore, allegedly sedated and sexually abused the girl while she was in an unconscious state on February 5, the police informed ANI. Dr Ravindran also threatened the girl against revealing the incident to anyone.
However, the incident came to light after the victim (17) revealed the incident to her colleagues, said police. They then approached the wife of the accused who is also a practising doctor in the hospital. However, she also refused to help them which prompted one of the victim’s colleagues to report the incident to the Childline Helpline. They then contacted Childline (1098) and narrated the incident to its coordinator, M Suleka, who lodged a complaint with all-woman police (east) inspector Masutha Begum, reports TOI
Acting swiftly, the helpline informed the state police about it who then arrested the accused.
The police registered a case against Ravindran under sections 7, 9 (e) read with 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act 2012 and arrested him. He was produced before the District Magistrate court this morning and will be in the police custody for a period of 15 days for interrogation.
