UP: Saifai Medical University MBBS doctor SHOT, Colleagues in PROTEST
Lucknow: All medical students and staff attached to Saifai Medical University are currently observing a protest after one of their colleagues; a junior resident was shot during a robbery carried out by three motorcycle-borne miscreants recently. The doctor reportedly got shot thrice by the looters and is critical at present.
The murderous assault took place late night on 24th October, when Dr Vipin Yadav, along with his colleague, a female medico; were going to get his motorcycle refuelled at a petrol pump. Dr Yadav is a student of MBBS in the 2013 batch of Saifai Medical College and is currently finishing his internship at the Saifai Medical University.
Amar Ujala reports that 24th October, Dr Vipin was going to Kareli with his Batch Mate female MBBS medico. They had gone to a fuel station near Muchahra village. After getting their two-wheeler fueled, they took some money from ATM and went ahead. After some distance, three people riding the bike near the deserted area stopped the doctor's bike by hand.
When he tried to resist and snatch his bike back, one of the gangsters shot Dr Vipin thrice. Hearing the sound of the bullet, the nearby village residents came to the spot, seeing that, the assailants spoofed off the crime scene.
The villagers immediately informed the police of the incident. Subsequently, the police arrived and with the help of the villagers, shifted the doctor to the Saifai Hospital's Trauma Center, where the doctor is currently getting treatment, adds Amar Ujala.
Upon getting the news of this incident, infuriated, the students of Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences started commotion stopping the emergency services of the hospital and cancelled the classes while demanding the arrest of the miscreants as soon as possible.
Given the seriousness of the matter, the university administration held the angry protestors within the campus.
The news of the fatal assault and its significant response by the other university medicos soon reached SSP Tripathi, who along with the heavy police force and senior officials reached the university.
The SSP tried to calm to the enraged protesting medicos, but the medicos refused to back down. The protestors said that the university would not be allowed to open until the attackers were arrested. On the other hand, the police have blocked the boundaries of the district by putting several teams to search for the attackers, reports Live Hindustan.
In the meantime, a day after the incident, President of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), Shivpal Yadav extended his support to the agitating medical university students and sat on a dharna with them at the university against the assault on Dr Vipin.
TOI reports that after taking part in the students' agitation, who were seeking immediate arrest of the culprits and tightening of security, Shivpal also visited the emergency ward of the university where the injured medical student is undergoing treatment.
Shivpal also slammed police. "Saifai police has become 'nakara' (inept)," he stated.
Not only from Shivpal Yadav, but the protestors have also received support from various medical associations including Federation Of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and United Resident Doctors Association (United RDA).
