Bengaluru : A senior doctor from Jayanagar Government Hospital, Bengaluru has found herself on the wrong side of the law, after she was arrested for allegedly helping three arrested Pakistani nationals to get Aadhaars.
The police had been in the process of investigating, how three Pakistani nationals got Indian documents like Aadhaar and voter's ID and found during interrogation of them that they were able to do so with the help of a gazetted officer, that is Dr CS Nagalakshmamma.
Deccan Herald reports that one of the three, Mohammad Shihab had approached the doctor with a request to attest the copies of his house rent agreement. A temporary resident must get a certificate of residence attested by either a gazetted officer or an elected representative to get Aadhaar. The doctor, who is a gazetted officer with powers to attest documents or endorse certificates of residence, obliged him without carrying out any verification.
Police officials said she claimed she didn't know the three applicants were Pakistanis.
"Nagalakshmamma may not have known the applicants' nationality. But why did she sign on forged documents? Nagalakshmamma is a government officer and should not have done it," a senior police officer told TOI
It is reported that while an FIR was lodged against the doctor on Saturday after a complaint was filed by Ashok Lenin, Deputy Director, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) who made the doctor primary accused in abetting the crime. She was then produced before the court, and has now been sent for a two day police custody.
