Jaipur: 15 resident doctors of SMS (Sawai Man Singh) Medical College were threatened and blackmailed by a gang who demanded money through phone calls. One of the resident doctors got a video call from a gang member showing indecent video of a girl and took a screenshot of the doctor's reaction.

The incident was informed to JARD by a resident doctor of the department of surgery. Dr. Amit Yadav, president of JARD stated , "He told us that someone made a video call at his phone number. When he picked up the video call, an indecent video of a girl surfaced on his screen. He was shocked to see it. Before he could understand what was happening, the caller took a screenshot of the video call. The doctor within seconds disconnected the call."

"Within a few minutes, he started getting messages on the doctor's phone threatening him if he does not transfer Rs 10,000 into an account, he would post the video and screenshots of the video chat on his social networking account to his friend. He posted the pictures on some of the doctor's friends wall posts and immediately deleted them but before deleting them, he took the screenshots. He, then, posted the screenshot to the doctor asking him to pay. The gang members make video calls to resident doctors and play indecent videos of girls. They take screenshots and threaten the resident doctors of posting the screenshots on their social networking sites," Yadav added.

As per a media report in TOI, an FIR was filed by Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) regarding the matter.

Due to the escalating number of blackmail cases reported, JARD has now circulated a "red alert" message to all resident doctors of SMS Medical College asking them not to feel guilty if they have also been victims of blackmailing as they have not committed any crimes, but are victims and should alert JARD and the police if they have been affected.

According to JARD officials, there have been some reported incidents, but there are probably many more that went unreported by resident doctors. Another female resident doctor of the department of anesthesia complained to JARD about a call she received in which the caller threatened her and demanded money but the call did not have any indecent video.
