NMC allows provisional registration to MBBS graduates irrespective of the recognition status of their Medical Colleges

New Delhi: Addressing the concerns of medical students who have cleared their final year MBBS examinations and waiting to get enrolled in the mandatory internship programme due to the pending recognition status of their medical colleges, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has allowed them all provisional registration in the concerned State Medical Council.

With the relief from NMC, now these medical graduates will be able to get provisional registration in the State Medical Councils and enroll for the mandatory internship in their parent institutes, irrespective of the recognition status of their concerned medical colleges.

Issuing a Public Notice in this regard, the Director of UG Medical Education Board, Shambhu Sharan Kumar mentioned, "All Indian Medical Graduates who have cleared their final MBBS examinations till Academic Year 2022-2023 shall be granted provisional registration in the concerned State Medical Council and subsequent internship in their Parent Colleges immediately, irrespective of the recognition status of their Medical Colleges."

The NMC relief has come when several colleges across the country are facing the issue of pending recognition. Due to this, the medical students and the medical graduates from these medical colleges are facing trouble moving forward in their careers. In the case of medical graduates, they are unable to participate in the postgraduate medical admission process without recognition.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that around 300 medical graduates in Uttar Pradesh were facing a similar problem since they were unable to register with the State Medical Faculty (SMF) in the absence of recognition from the Apex medical commission.

Reportedly, the MBBS students of the 2017 batch of these three medical colleges, who graduated in 2022, faced a situation concerning lack of recognition for the last year. Meanwhile, the 2018 batch of MBBS students are about to appear in the exams and complete the MBBS course in 2023 and they are also worried about their future. While 1 medical college has got NMC recognition recently, the state is waiting for the others.

A similar problem is being faced by the Medical Graduates from Government Doon Medical College as well. In the absence of recognition from the Apex medical commission, these medical graduates from the 2017 batch are unable to participate in post-graduation entrance examinations such as the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination, Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INICET), United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), and Professional Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) examination.

Raising the issue of those medical graduates in Uttar Pradesh, recently the Indian Medical Association (IMA) approached the Chief Minister of the State Yogi Adityanath and blamed the blanket permit given by NMC for this situation.
