NMC warns of 'Fake' Notice on NExT Syllabus, Marks Distribution

New Delhi: In a recent public notice, the Ethics & Medical Registration Board of the National Medical Commission has warned about a fake notice claiming to contain information regarding the upcoming National Exit Test (NEXT).

The notice, which has been termed to be a fake by NMC, claims to contain information regarding the new syllabus of the National Exit Test. Apart from that, the notice also mentioned the Subject wise marks distribution in the test.

It was also claimed in the notice that "NEXT-1 will be conducted on December 2022."

"As per the new guidelines of National Medical Commission the subjects and marks distribution regarding NEXT will be now changed and candidate have to follow new structure as per following," mentioned the fake notice.

Regarding the National Exist Test Syllabus, the notice claimed, "All 19 subjects in new MCI curriculum will be included in NEXT exit test syllabus for MBBS, But subject-wise marks distribution will be drastically different than what it was in NEET-PG exam on MCI Screening exam (i.e. FMGE Foreign Medical Graduate Examiantion), The clinical subjects will carry disproportionately more marks than pre- & para-clinical subjects."

In the fake notice, it was claimed that in the new paper pattern, there would be 55 marks of MCQ in Medicine (allied subjects-Dermatology, Psychiatry), 60 in Surgery (Orthopedics, Anesthesia), 60 in Obs & Gyn (Radiology). Apart from this, MCQ containing 25 marks in Minor subject Pediatrics, 20 each in ENT and Opthalmology will also be there in the new paper pattern.

So, altogether there would be total number of 240 MCQs including 175 from Major subjects and 65 from Minor subjects.

"Each correct answer in NEXT, 4 marks will be awarded and one mark will be deducted for each wrong attempt. If any candidate will leave the question un-attempted, there is no negative marking or that," mentioned the notice regarding marking scheme for NEXT-1.

However, clarifying that the notice is a 'fake', NMC has mentioned in its public notice dated 04.02.2022, "It is informed to all that the document is fake and is not issued by EMRB (NMC). All concerned may kindly take notice of this."

There are several speculations regarding the much awated NEXT examination, which is going to serve not only as a licentiate exam for those who have done MBBS in India as well as abroad but would also serve as a gateway to admission to the postgraduate broad-speciality medical education in the country. The exam is going to be attempted by Indian medical graduates and foreign medical graduates (FMGs) alike, thus providing a level playing field for all to practice in the country.
