MBBS Seats

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice informing students admitted to the 50 additional MBBS seats at JIET Medical College and Hospital, Jodhpur, that their admissions are subject to the final decision of the Supreme Court in Special Leave Petition.

The NMC's Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) clarified that these additional seats, beyond the 50 seats initially permitted, are currently under legal scrutiny following a challenge against the Rajasthan High Court’s division bench order dated 11.12.2024.

In response to NMC’s plea, the Supreme Court of India issued a notice in the case and directed that; "The petitioners shall be at liberty to publish a general notice informing the students who have been admitted against additional 50 seats re: the pendency of these proceedings."

Following this directive, the NMC issued a public notice on 10th March 2025, officially warning students and stakeholders that the status of admissions to these additional 50 seats remains uncertain until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict.

This case stems from JIET Medical College & Hospital vs. Union of India and Tirupati Balaji Educational Trust vs. Union of India, where the Rajasthan High Court's division bench had earlier refused to overturn a single judge's order, which allowed an increase in MBBS seats from 50 to 100 at JIET Medical College, Jodhpur. In response, the NMC challenged this ruling before the Supreme Court through the Special Leave Petition.

With the Supreme Court yet to deliver a final ruling, students enrolled in these 50 additional seats face uncertainty regarding the validity of their admissions. The NMC has urged all concerned students and stakeholders to stay updated on the legal proceedings, as the outcome of SLP 5259/2025 will determine whether these additional seats remain valid.

The public notice has been issued with the approval of the competent authority and has been communicated to students, stakeholders, and officials from the Rajasthan Medical Education Department to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives.
